Terms of Use

Last updated 2026-11-01

Draft pending legal review. A plain-language summary of the terms, to be finalized by counsel before launch.

Not a medical device

Elk is a general-wellness app, not a medical device, and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It shows trends in your own signals against your own baseline. It never reports a hormone value and is not a substitute for a doctor. If you have a health concern, or if Elk flags something unusual, consult a qualified professional.

For adults

Elk is for people aged 18 and over.

Your data

Elk is local-first: your data lives encrypted on your device and you can delete or export it at any time. How we handle data is described in the Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions

The core check-in, trend and doctor report are free. Elk Pro is an optional auto-renewing subscription, offered monthly or yearly; the yearly plan may start with a free trial.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends.
  • The subscription renews automatically at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • You can manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies.

App Store purchases

If you downloaded Elk from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Where it conflicts with these terms, Apple's agreement governs your licence to use the app.

Your licence to use Elk

Elk grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on your own devices, for your own wellness. That licence is all you get — the app itself, and everything in it, stays ours (see “Our intellectual property” below).

What you agree not to do

So that Elk stays safe, private and fair for everyone, you agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer the app — decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive its source code, its on-device models, or the methods it uses to compute baselines and trends, except to the narrow extent the law says you may and we can't restrict.
  • Extract, scrape, copy, or republish the app's content, models, datasets, or design.
  • Circumvent, disable, or tamper with its security, encryption, or any technical protection.
  • Access the app by automated means, or probe, load-test, or disrupt it or any service it uses.
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app, or use it to build or train a competing product.
  • Rely on a trend as a medical result, or use Elk in a way that breaks the law.

Our intellectual property

Elk — its name and logo, its design, its code, and the on-device models and the baseline/trend methodology behind it — is the property of the Elk team and is protected by intellectual-property law. We openly tell you what Elk measures and what it stores (see the Privacy Policy) so you can make an informed choice; that transparency is not permission to copy, extract, or reconstruct how it works. Nothing here transfers any ownership to you beyond the limited licence above.

No warranty

Elk is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. Trends are estimates derived from your inputs and your device's sensors and may be imperfect. To the extent permitted by law, the Elk team is not liable for decisions made in reliance on the app.

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
